This nursery is designed for the modern, energetic and hip expectant parents of today’s urbanized society. The main focus is to provide a stimulating yet relaxing environment for the arriving new member of the family and his busy caregivers.
A baby nursery is a place where the young baby and his parents will spend a lot of time doing a variety of very different from each other activities: feeding, hygienic routines, resting, sleeping, trying to stay awake, having fun, relaxing. To fulfill this diversity of requirements a complementary colour scheme of blues and oranges is selected.
Naturally, the appetite stimulating qualities of orange will be of use when it comes to feeding the young gentlemen and the sociable and cheerful atmosphere that this vibrant colour brings will be welcomed at play time. To avoid the possibility of the persistence of orange becoming irritating, its use in the room is limited to accents that can go out of sight when necessary, but that are readily there when the time is right. With this in mind the playful orange wallpaper pattern is intended for only one accent wall, and the oak hardwood floor bears only a hint of burnt orange. The rest of the orange accents include a highly textured and attention grabbing pendant light fixture, and several other small accessories throughout the room.
From the opposite side of the colour wheel blue, with its calming and cooling properties, steps in to assist in the so important relaxing, resting and sleeping activities in the nursery. Blue is used for several furniture items, bedding and other small accessories to provide for the serene and tranquil atmosphere much needed for the challenges that come with new parenthood.
A pristine neutral background of white (for the rest of the walls, and the crib) is chosen as the backdrop for the harmonious duet of the stimulating orange and the soothing blue. The purity and efficiency of white is also intended to aid in maintaining the so important cleanliness required for a newborn’s dwelling. ♦
