For the immediate needs of the client, and keeping in mind that each USM Haller piece can be expanded or reconfigured at any time, the following main pieces are included: a generously sized desk; a sideboard storage unit that can accommodate a printer/fax on its top surface; a shelving/filing unit providing more office storage and shelving space for 15 or more lever arch files; two trolley units for any mobile office needs, and doubling as side tables when necessary at the reading area or at bedside. A high quality classic-contemporary sofa bed is chosen to serve a double duty as well: (a) centre point of a comfortable and spacious reading area when used as a sofa, together with the ottoman; (b) required sleeping accommodation for guests when converted to a double size bed (which can be easily done in a matter of seconds). A clean-lined wardrobe with a space-enhancing mirrored sliding door continues in the modern-classic flavour and provides storage room for the spare bedding, luggage and Christmas decorations. Tried-and-true Eames management desk chair completes the selection of versatile furnishings.
Art Deco Home Office
Distinct character is given to the space by creating a sophisticated art deco scheme. The colour palette is neutral, sleek materials and general lack of texture are dominant. Glossy surfaces, wood inlay and elegant sweeping curves ensure glamorous appeal. Angular shapes and balanced geometric elements are unmistakably modernist. Eco Home Office
With the ever-growing concern for the environment, and eco design is one that definitely makes quite a lot of sense, now and for the future. While a wholesome fully functioning design of this sort would require a major overhaul, little steps can be taken into the right direction to adapt a space and make it more environmentally friendly without building it from scratch. In the present case, this is achieved by consciously selecting accessories and finishing touches that are produced using sustainable materials and environmentally sound processes such as recycling, reclaiming and up-cycling. The chosen lighting is of the highly energy efficient LED type. Aesthetically, the look is achieved by limiting the colour palette to the natural hues of the materials with a few fresh bursts of lively green. ♦
